Result:Won
Scores:H&TCC – 176AO (B.Jacobs 80, S. Handley 30)
Southend – 109AO (S.Handley 4-29, H.Zaidi 3-15, A.Dobson 3-30)

Rich Revell Reports:
We went into this game knowing it was a must win fixture. We lost the toss and were put into bat and the lads responded really well and at lunch we were 137-3, which I thought was strong position going into the last 24 overs. Unfortunately we had the dreaded Hadleigh collapse and found ourselves all out for 176, mainly due to some good bowling from Southend. BJ top scoring with 80.

Following a short turnaround we were back out and despite some good bowling from Dobbo (3-30) Southend were going along with their chase quite comfortably. We then decided spin was the best option and it proved correct, with both Sam Handley (4-29) and Haider Zaidi (3-15) bowling fantastically and Southend were all out for 109.

It was a great win and meant we got maximum points. With other results also going our way has now put us in a much stronger position going into the last game of the season.
vs. Chelmsford
Date:Saturday 25th August 2018
Venue:Away
Game:SNEL
Result:Lost
Scores:H&TCC – 77AO
Chelmsford – 83/7 (R. Revell 4-25)

Rich Revell Reports:
Surprise surprise we lost the toss again, the pitch was a little soft after the heavy rain from the day before but I felt it still looked a good wicket so wasn't overly bothered about being put in to bat first. Unfortunately, the ball was swinging and there was quite a bit of seam movement which proved tricky for our batsmen. To be fair their bowlers bowled well (one of which was another Essex player) and put the ball in the right areas. With a little help from the umpires Chelmsford managed to bowl us all out for 77. Despite the low score we went out and fought hard. The ball was still seaming around and we picked up a wicket in the first over. We continued to bowl well and found ourselves in a position to win the game, having Chelmsford at 40-7. Myself and Haider doing most of the damage. Unfortunately, we didn't quite have enough to get the last few wickets and lost the game.
vs. Shenfield
Date:Saturday 18th August 2018
Venue:Home
Game:SNEL
Result:Lost
Scores:H&TCC – 101AO (A.Soilleux 45)
Shenfield – 102/3

Rich Revell Reports:
Actually won a toss for a change and the pitch looked ok so thought we would have a bat. Unfortunately that would prove a mistake as the pitch was a bit lively, coupled with the 2 top opening bowlers Shenfield have it was difficult to survive let own score runs! Solly batted well and got us back in the game but unfortunately we then lost another cluster of wickets before lunch which left struggling to reach 100. In return we bowled ok, but trying to defend a small target with the short boundaries at Hadleigh was always going to be hard. The loss leaves us only 2 points clear of relegation but we know we can win all 3 of the last games so we need to stay positive and be ready to perform in order to stay in this league.
vs. Billericay
Date:Saturday 11th August 2018
Venue:Away
Game:SNEL
Result:Lost
Scores:H&TCC – 170/7 (A.Soilleux 51, S.Handley 34, O.Smith 46)
Billericay – 171/8 (H.Zaidi 3-24)

Rich Revell Reports:
Turned up at Billericay and expected to see a road but following a couple of days of torrential rain the outfield was very spongey and the pitch, soft and grassy. I can’t win a toss to save my life this year and lost again and unsurprisingly were put into bat. We started slow and lost a couple of early wickets, Solly (51) and Sam (34) steadied the ship with a good partnership until a few wickets fell in short succession until Smudge came in and hit a much needed 46. We ended up on 170 which we felt was a par score considering the pitch conditions and the slow outfield.

As the day went on the pitch improved and outfield dried. I still felt with out bowling we could bowl them out, we started well and had them 60-4 after the opening spells of myself and Dobbo, probably a bit unlucky not to get a few more. Haider bowled another good 10 over spell taking 3 with BJ getting 3 very sharp slip catches. Smudge then came on and took a wicket with his first bowl and we had Billericay 130-8 and I felt we had the game won.

Unfortunately we didn’t quite get our lines right and allowed the lower order batsmen to swing their arms and get them over the line. Another close game which I felt we were the better team and if we’d have bowled first we would have won comfortably. We still picked up points and are 20 points clear of relegation.
vs. Wanstead & Snaresbrook
Date:Saturday 4th August 2018
Venue:Home
Game:SNEL
Result:Lost
Scores:Wanstead – 166AO (R.Revell 4-27, H.Zaidi 3-23)
H&TCC – 146AO (A.Bennett 39)

Rich Revell Reports:
Lost the toss (again!) and they elected to bat, the wicket wasn’t great and along with some choice shots from Wanstead we had them 97-8. Their captain dug in and batted a very handy 51 for them and got them up to 166. Although the pitch wasn’t great, 166 was still a good result and gettable. Bowling and fielding was good - Haider took 3-23, myself 4-27. For some reason we struggle batting at home when chasing, we lost early wickets and were 35-4 against and very ordinary opening bowling attack. This allowed their good spin attack to apply pressure on our batsmen and wickets continued to fall. Ash batted well for 39 but we were bowled out for 146. A good game for the spectators but annoying we couldn’t get across the line given the position we put ourselves in. Perhaps I could have mixed the bowling up a bit more to get the last couple of wickets quicker. I didn’t use Ash or BJ. But I still think we should be chasing that total down. It was nice to see us compete with one of the top teams in the Prem.
vs. Ilford
Date:Saturday 28th July 2018
Venue:Away
Game:SNEL (50)
Result:Won
Scores:H&TCC – 193/5 (L.Smith 58*, M.Holmes 54*)
Ilford – 145AO (H.Zaidi 4-34)

Richard Revell Reports:
We lost the toss and were put in to bat. From the offset we knew a total around 180 was going to be hard to chase as Ilford’s pitch was proving very tricky to bat on. Our middle order really stepped up and gritted it out to give us a total of 193 from our 50 overs. Max Holmes and Luke Smith both getting fine 50’s to put us in a good position at the half way mark. We started well with the ball and took a couple of early wickets, Ilford did manage to build a couple of partnerships but were always behind the run rate. We were sharp in the field and patient with our bowling, the pressure built and the wickets started to fall. Everyone did their bit with the ball but Haider Zaidi was the stand out bowler taking 4-34. It was a great win for the lads and just the response I was looking for after the disappointment of last week.
vs. Hornchurch
Date:Saturday 21st July 2018
Venue:Home
Game:SNEL (50)
Result:Lost
Scores:Hornchuch – 298/6
H&TCC – 120AO (S.Handley 65*)

Richard Revell Reports:
Loss the toss and was put in the field, the pitch didn’t offer much for the bowlers. Thought Dobbo bowled well, I struggled to find my lengths…Our spinners were probably trying a little too hard to find that wicket ball and runs were coming pretty easily for them, at one point I thought we could be chasing 350+. Solly came on a got us the breakthrough with a quick couple of wickets, which stemmed the runs. We then had their big hitter dropped 3 times which cost us about 60 odd runs. Smudge bowled well at the death. I know no one drops a catch on purpose but these were 3 very simple chances. Hornchurch ended up with 298 from their 50 overs, the lads were exhausted and down beat but I felt it was a gettable target and was trying to gee them up for it. The more I think about our batting performance the more I get frustrated. Apart from Sam, no one fancied it and we were all out for 120. Some terrible shots! A bit embarrassed with the performance really, maybe after a successful couple of weeks we were too complacent approaching this game or perhaps still feeling the effects of Tuesday. Can’t take anything away from Hornchurch tho, a very strong outfit who will likely win or be near the top at the end of the season.
vs. Chingford
Date:Saturday 14th July 2018
Venue:Away
Game:SNEL (50)
Result:Won
Scores:H&TCC – 286/8 (B.Jacobs 80, S.Handley 63, P.Tibbenham 40, A.Soileux 31)
Chingford – 114AO (A.Soileux 3-6, R.Revell 3-11)

Richard Revell Reports:
Most of us turned up late due to the M25 being closed. Chingford only had 10 men so we allowed them to start with 10 and add a player later in the day / as soon as 1 arrived for them (as long as it wasn’t 1 of the Essex lads!).Won the toss and decided to bat, always a decent wicket over there and the outfield was very quick. It was our best start of the season with Tibbs (40) and BJ (80) scoring an opening partnership of 136. Sam (63), Solly (31) and Luke (22) all contributed with some big hitting to put us on 286. We put on 100+ in the last 10 overs. We started well in the field, the buzz was good and we bowled well (apart from my first over which somehow only went for 1). I took 3, thought Dobbo was a little unlucky only to get 2. Haider bowled well again, taking 2.. Solly came on and cleaned up. We bowled them out for 114, a convincing win!
