RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK

Saturday 1st
vs. Southend EMT
Saturday 1st September 2018
Won
H&TCC – 176AO (B.Jacobs 80, S. Handley 30)
Southend – 109AO (S.Handley 4-29, H.Zaidi 3-15, A.Dobson 3-30)

Rich Revell Reports:
We went into this game knowing it was a must win fixture. We lost the toss and were put into bat and the lads responded really well and at lunch we were 137-3, which I thought was strong position going into the last 24 overs. Unfortunately we had the dreaded Hadleigh collapse and found ourselves all out for 176, mainly due to some good bowling from Southend. BJ top scoring with 80.

Following a short turnaround we were back out and despite some good bowling from Dobbo (3-30) Southend were going along with their chase quite comfortably. We then decided spin was the best option and it proved correct, with both Sam Handley (4-29) and Haider Zaidi (3-15) bowling fantastically and Southend were all out for 109.

It was a great win and meant we got maximum points. With other results also going our way has now put us in a much stronger position going into the last game of the season.
Saturday 2nd
vs. Belhus
Saturday 1st September 2018
Lost
Belhus – 235-7 (dec)
H&TCC – 159AO (I.Harrison 30, M. Tibbenham 40)

Diggers Reports:
Won the toss and bowled, as I felt the best way for us to win this game was to chase down a total.

Didn’t get off to the best of starts, with Belhus opening batsmen putting on 80 odd for the first wicket inside 14-15 overs. Ishen and Rob Parmenter were the pick of the bowlers each picking up 2 wickets, backed up well by Rory and Gilly. We ended up having a taregt of 232 to chase down.

Unfortunately we lost a few early wickets, and despite a good recovery from Mike tibbs and Ratty we didn’t look like being able to get to the target.

A minimum of 12 points next week guarantees our safety, otherwise we will be relying on other results to go our way to stay in the division.
Saturday 3rd
vs. Fives & Heronians
Saturday 1st September 2018
Lost
H&TCC – 189AO (A.Mitchell 37)
Fives – 173/5 (A.Graham 3-38)

Andy “Run Machine” Mitchell reports:
Away match at Fives. I won the toss and decided to bat first. Miles Graham and myself opened the batting and where going along nicely when Miles got possessed, played a shot completely out of character and got clean bowled (54/1). The batting carried on ok with myself making 37 (run out) and Jon Snelling hitting 29 (bowled). Ali Graham played his usual good lower order innings making 26 and pushing the score along. We ended up all out for 189. We felt we could defend that total and Greg Hood & Ben Rossiter opened up the bowling. Both bowled well without getting the rewards. Ali Graham then came on and took 3/38, we had Fives 96/4 but unfortunately couldn’t push on and get those vital wickets. Fives won the game.
Saturday 4th
vs. Benfleet
Saturday 1st September 2018
Lost
Benfleet – 246-0
H&TCC – 156AO (K. Patel 46, S. Young 47*)

Geoff Davison reports:
Although we were not able to make a breakthrough in the field, we did again create half a dozen chances that we were not able to take. The attitude of all the players and especially the younger ones was good, and at no times did heads go down. Many thanks to Darren Wilsmore who, when seeing we were fielding with 10, changed into his whites, ignored his hamstrings, and patrolled the boundary with vigour. Special thanks also to Kishen who was the first player to arrive and last to leave, helping set up and clear away, bowling and batting well with commitment, and taking over the scoring for an hour immediately after his innings finished and making sure the book balanced and getting the results off. A great help to a captain under pressure and a fine example for the younger ones.
