We are delighted to have a thriving women’s cricket and girl’s cricket set-up at our cricket club. Further information about this and how to get involved is below!
We are delighted to have a thriving women’s cricket set-up at Hadleigh & Thundersley Cricket Club. We welcome ladies of all ages, abilities and fitness levels and you could join our great group of ladies to learn new skills. We are playing softball women’s cricket and there’s no need to buy any equipment to get involved!
Our women’s cricket journey started with offering taster sessions led by Emily Soilleux (ex-Northants county women) and community outreach. What has followed has been amazing and during the summer we run regular women’s cricket sessions on Monday evenings at our club (based in John Burrows Recreation Ground). Monday evenings are also our youth training night in the summer so this is ideal for mums of new or existing youth players to get involved. During the winter months, we run indoor women’s cricket sessions at a local sports hall on Monday evenings.
Our ladies enjoy their cricket with us and developing new skills in a team environment with a family-friendly, community feel.
We enter teams into the Essex Softball Series with round robin softball tournaments and the 10-a-side Ballerz Blast league across the summer which any of our ladies can take part in. We surprised ourselves and won our division to reach County Finals Day in our second ever season and then went on to become County Runners Up! We also enter the women’s indoor cricket league.
We have started a ladies hardball team open to adults and girls from Year 8 upwards and in the summer we play in the Essex T20 League.
We have refurbished our changing rooms to include a ladies changing room and toilet for when the existing changing rooms are all occupied on Saturdays so we are able to facilitate mixed gender teams in a more inclusive way at the club. We have also now installed state of the art new cricket nets to support ladies cricket training.
To get involved or if you have questions, please get in touch by email hadleigh.thundersleycc@gmail.com.
We run an annual All Stars programme for Year 1 to 3 girls and boys during the summer at our cricket club. This is ideal for beginners starting out their cricket journey with a softball and expert coaching following the ECB All Stars Programme. We hold these on Friday evenings in the summer 18:00-19:00. For more information, please email Dilber Vapiwala (Youth Secretary) at hadleigh.thundersleycc@gmail.com.
We also run an annual girls only Dynamos programme for 8 to 11 year old girls during the summer at our cricket club – the largest in the local area! This is ideal for beginners starting out their cricket journey with a softball and graduates from the All Stars programme.
From the Dynamos programme, we have grown an Under 11 Girls Softball team who plays other girls’ teams. Our Under 11 Girls team (Years 2 to 6) will continue to train during the winter indoors.
Dynamos training is held on Friday evenings in the summer 18:00-19:00. For more information, please email Dilber Vapiwala (Youth Secretary) at hadleigh.thundersleycc@gmail.com.
We have grown an Under 13 girls only hardball team building on the success of our Under 11 girls team. We also enter an U15 girls hardball cup competition.
We also welcome girls directly into our mixed gender youth teams. Girls can play for two extra years in each age group recognising the different physical developments between girls and boys over time.
We start with Under 11 softball cricket or hardball cricket (girls up to Year 8), Under 13 hardball cricket (girls up to year 10) and Under 15 hardball cricket (girls up to year 12). Girls are also welcome to play in our open age Saturday hardball teams if they are at the right stage of their cricket development.
